Applications of biotechnology to plant breeding
The contents of this training course are as follows:
1. Origin of agriculture and crop domestication.
2. Plant breeding: breeding objectives, techniques used, breeding periods, limitations of classical breeding.
3. Biotechnology: in vitro culture, embryo rescue, protoplast fusion, polyploids, bridge species.
4. Molecular markers: types of markers, advantages and disadvantages, search methods, marker-assisted selection, high-throughput genotyping.
5. Transgenesis: transformation methods, examples of transgenic crops, advantages and disadvantages.
